The Georg-August University of Göttingen invites applications for an open

Junior professor position (W1) for ``Mathematical Data Analysis''


at the Institute of Numerical and Applied Mathematics to be filled by October 1, 2011. The initial appointment is for three years with an extension for three more years after positive evaluation.


The successful candidate is expected to have research experience in at least one area of mathematical data analysis such as mathematical signal and image processing, computational harmonic analysis, fast algorithms, numerical linear algebra or inverse problems.


A PhD degree in mathematics is required. Further, the candidate is expected to have an excellent research record as well as experiences in teaching and in fundraising.


The tasks in this position cover active research in the field of mathematical data analysis and participation in teaching duties of the Institute in the current mathematical Bachelor/Master study courses. General duties and requirements can be found at §30 of the Niedersächisches Hochschulgesetz (version of February 26/2007, cf. Nds. GVBl. 5/ 2007, p. 69). In particular, the total duration of positions as “wissenschaftliche Hilfskraft” or “wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter” prior to and after obtaining the PhD must not exceed 6 years. The University of Göttingen has the right to appoint. Details will be explicated upon request.
