October 1–4, 2007, Königswinter, Germany
General Information   (last updated November 1, 2007)

The bilateral Workshop ‘Approximation and Wavelets’ will take place from October 1 to 4, 2007 at the Adam-Stegerwald-Haus in Königswinter.

The themes of the workshop will cover new trends and results from the fields of Constructive Approximation Theory, Splines, Wavelet and Frame Theory and Applications.

The workshop aims to bring together specialists from Romania and Germany in order to meet and to discuss current research and to intensify the collaboration of colleagues from both countries in these fields.
It continues the series of Romanian-German (ROGER) Seminars on Approximation Theory which were organized in Romania since 1994.

The workshop starts on Monday afternoon, October 1, and will end on Thursday noon, October 4, with the lunch.
Participants are expected to arrive on Monday and to leave on Thursday afternoon or on Friday morning.

The workshop is supported by the German Research Foundation (DFG), the University of Duisburg-Essen and the Duisburger Universitätsgesellschaft.

Location
View from the castle of Drachenfels to Königswinter

Königswinter is a small town to the south of Bonn, directly on the river Rhine and at the border of the Siebengebirge, one of the oldest nature reserves in Germany. A special monument and touristic symbol of Königswinter is the castle ruin on the mountain Drachenfels. Guests can go to that mountain by a rack-railway and have a wonderful view to the river valley.

There will be an excursion on Wednesday afternoon.

Travel Suggestions for Participants from Bulgaria and Romania

Please try to arrive on Monday, October 1 around 11:00 at Düsseldorf or Köln-Bonn airport. One possibility for Romanians is to book a Carpatair flight from your closest airport to Timisoara and from there to Düsseldorf.

At Düsseldorf airport there is a railway station. This can be reached by a free "skytrain". Take a train going to Cologne (Köln Hbf.), and change there for another one to Königswinter (1 h 28 min altogether). Tickets can be bought in the train station. Buy a return ticket for a "Regionalexpress".

People flying to Köln-Bonn airport have the possibility to take a direct train to Königswinter (29 min.) at the railway station of the airport. Also these people should buy return tickets for a "Regionalexpress".

For the way back to Romania you should book a flight for Friday, October 5. Please take into account that you have to be at the airport approximately 2 hours prior to departure. One possibility is to book the 11:15 flight from Düsseldorf to Timisoara, etc.

Proceedings

A special issue of the Duisburg-based journal Resultate der Mathematik (Results in Mathematics), Birkhäuser/Basel, will be available for the proceedings of the workshop. We intend to dedicate this volume to Professors Luciana and Alexandru Lupas from Sibiu who passed away in September 2006 and August 2007, respectively. Alex was one of the co-founders of the series of RoGer seminars.

Each participant may submit a paper of up to 8 pages for publication in the special issue by December 31, 2007 to one of the organizers from Duisburg. There will be a regular peer refereeing procedure, and we hope the volume to come out by the middle of 2008 or earlier.

Instructions for manuscript preparation can be found » here (Results in Mathematics homepage).

Submission of a manuscript implies that the work described has not been published before and that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
